The History of Nikola Tesla
Nikola Tesla was a Serbian-American inventor, electrical engineer, mechanical engineer, physicist,
and futurist
best known for his contributions to the design of the modern alternating current electrical supply system.
He was born on July 10th of 1856 in Smiljan, Croatia. His main inventions were the induction motor, alternating current, Tesla coil, neon lamp, remote control, and wireless telegraphy. Tesla had obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) which could have been beneficial to his urge to tinker around with electricity, and invent these helpful items. It was also noted that Tesla had many behaviors like ones that an autistic kid could have. However, Tesla was always very intelligent. He had master concentration and was known to build models of his inventions almost perfectly. His IQ as a kid was in the "very superior range", and he was always interested in school. Tesla is known to have received patents for about two-hundred inventions. As mentioned before, his most famous invention was the alternating current (AC). An AC is a current that when flowing through a circuit is constantly reversed back and front, and is the electrical current we use in most buildings today. This was better then the previously used current, the direct current (DC) because it easily allows changes in voltage using transformers, giving AC systems a great advantage over DC systems. By using transformers, AC power can be changed up to very high voltages for transmission and then changed down again to safer voltages for consumers to use, with much less loss of power than DC. The AC is also easier and cheaper to produce then the DC, but like most inventions it wasn't accepted right away, however it didn't take people too long to realize that this current was much better. In 1898, he introduced the remote control boat which influenced weapons in WWII, in 1895 he founded the hydroelectric power plant, which was used in Niagra Falls, in 1896 Tesla made the ability to receive radio waves, he created the first neon signs just by bending tubes from glass into names, and so much more. Nikola Tesla actually never dated, and never got married because he thought it would get in the way of him and his work. It is easy to say that Nikola Tesla was truly a revolutionary geek, and his inventions were a turning point in history.
